Hello Umbra Polaris,

I certainly agree with that statement. It's much easier to learn, than say, Comodo. Comodo HIPS on Paranoid not for amateur night.

Hello Umbra Polaris,

There are things I do like about it, but in order to get the most out of it I need to be Neo. If I am Neo, then...like you say...I use Linux.

My preference is ESET, because:
1) Lighter on system resources (system speed when multitasking, copy/paste)
2) By far better detection
3) Better detection of PUPs
4) Very stable program (no crashes or bugs) while Emsisoft internet security caused BSOD and some other problems.
5) Faster update release for zero day/unknown malware.

In general:
I suggest you try both programs to see which one is better for you.
Both programs will serve you well...

Hello Mike.V,

Yes. EAM/EIS cause BSOD on some systems.

All software is not perfect, but Emsi Staff work very hard to make better. Major bugs fixed relatively fast.

You offer good advice...try both...or as many as you deem fit to find one that you find acceptable.

ESET is solid, respectable.

Eset will give you decent protection and better performance on mid to high end systems. It's hips manually configured will offer you one hell of a protection (policy based mode).

Emsisoft will have their famous BB which I always been a fan of but with each version builds somehow somewhere there are more issues that do tend to be fixed but that's one cost for its high protection. Also it's heavier compared to eset. Both good take your pick. Personal recommendation eset but that is just my opinion.

Try before you buy.
Try EIS for a month and decide if you would like to use it or replace with other security product. :)

Emsisoft is clearly better. It has dual engines- which provide detection rates of 99%.. If anything goes through, the behaviour blocker works great.
For eset the signatures are good but not better than emsisoft and it has no zero day protection.

ESET HIPS on Policy based mode = Unless there is a rule to allow something, It will not run at all. Also it is recommended for any user to go to Advanced Setup in HIPS to enable "Notify when changes occur in Startup applications".

So it does have zero day protection, just needs a bit of configuring.

Hello,

I am not rabid defender of any single security software solution.

This is the truth...as your knowledge and experience increases, then you become less dependent upon security software.

Good understanding of IT security + solid, respectable AV will give reasonably high security for typical user.

Knowledge/experience much...much... more important that quality of AV...my opinion.

How to get knowledge/experience? Hard way...by doing. It always looks good on paper, but once you start doing then it becomes entirely different story.

I had BSODs with EIS and i don't have Virtual box installed on my pc.
Anyways i prefer EAM as it is more stable and i never had problem with it.
I have experienced BSODs with Emsisoft as well. It is a shame. Hopefully the coming versions will be more stable. However, I understand the difficulty in developing such a sophisticated piece of software, the work (and hours) put into it and the level of cooperation throughout the team members on a regular basis to keep everything maintained and up-to-date.

An issue occured in the Kernel Mode driver (ring 0). When there is a "crash", since it is running in Kernel Mode instead of User Mode » BSOD time!

Hello kram7750,

If I understand your post correctly you are saying you experience first EAM/EIS crash, then complete system crash (BSOD)?

You report your experiences to Emsi?

I might not be super intelligent when it comes to the malware and virus world, but I am aware enough to not open anything, to go to the http:// site and find out if an offered download really came from them, am aware to not click open emails, but, alas, this computer is shared by my husband, who is a complete turkey! He just says..."Oops", and calls me...! "The computer quit working"... or, "I am getting these porno pop-ups somehow"... like on my LAST computer! That computer, by the way, is still sitting on my floor: it has our wedding photos in it, and I am unsure if I can get them out, without bringing in a virus, or attack of whatever it was that killed it... it is still running, but ..'retired' until I find out if I can get photos safely out.

A behavior blocker for my husband, or grand kids would be worth it's weight in gold!

No one software can give you full security...
Any way there is other security layers which dont exist in typical security pack

!)Virtulization and Sandboxing go check : Sandboxie, VMware Workstation and Shadow Defender programs
2)Also interesting should be keycrypt which you can find in SpyShelter and Keyscranbler.
3)You can even put restricions on specific program go check AppGaurd and in Sandboxie advanced options.

Dont forgot about backup system its also specific security layer where most ppl ignore it and cry after fact....

But imo Emsisoft handle best basic layers of security so dont worry :)
