Hello,

My parents have a HP computer running windows 8 on 64 bit machine. I booted it up - and noticed they hadnt installed windows updates in almost a year. After downloading/rebooting I noticed a program that would launch on start up called PC Health kit - after researching it i decided to try to uninstall it. I found out the best way to get rid of it would be to download and scan with Malware bytes free software. After the scan I went to go on the internet and discovered that I could not browse the internet although the machine says that it is connected to the Wifi still.

I googled the issue and found that it is very common for this to happen after malware bytes runs. However I already uninstalled malware bytes prior to researching the connect issue not knowing that i should not have done that.

After that these are the steps i have taken.
Scanned with AdwCleaner
Ran Minitoolbox as Admin
Scanned with Hitman Pro 64 bit
I did see at the top of the scan list for Hitman that there was a trojan virus - i did not note the name or location (but it said it was quarantined)
I did not want to take any more steps without starting this forum post.

I am using a different laptop to post this thread and to download any tools that are going to be use to try and fix this issue(transfer via usb drive to the infect machine)

Thank you in advance for any help.

-Joe

Hello,

Please download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your desktop.

Note: You need to run the version compatible with your system. If you are not sure which version applies to your system download both of them and try to run them.
Only one of them will run on your system, that will be the right version.

  • Double-click to run it. When the tool opens click Yes to disclaimer.
  • Press Scan button.

  • It will make a log (FRST.txt) in the same directory the tool is run. Please attach it to your reply.
  • The first time the tool is run, it makes also another log (Addition.txt). Please attach it to your reply.

FRST.gif
Fix with Farbar Recovery Scan Tool

This fix was created for this user for use on that particular machine.

Running it on another one may cause damage and render the system unstable.

Download attached fixlist.txt file and save it to the Desktop:

Both files, FRST and fixlist.txt have to be in the same location or the fix will not work!

  • Right-click on
    FRST.gif
    icon and select
    RunAsAdmin.jpg
Run as Administrator to start the tool.
(XP users click run after receipt of Windows Security Warning - Open File).
  • Press the Fix button just once and wait.
  • If for some reason the tool needs a restart, please make sure you let the system restart normally. After that let the tool complete its run.
  • When finishes FRST will generate a log on the Desktop, called Fixlog.txt.

Please attach it to your reply.
