I think there are enough third worlders here to not be able to use Chromebook because of unreliable internet and the technology and platforms used being behind.
The U.S. is the 3rd world in many parts of it - in terms of availability of good, modern internet access. And good access costs what some cannot afford. That's how this country is heading -> down, down, down. :LOL:

The Chromebooks are not suited to many tasks important in organizations, like:
  1. Managing/controlling by administrators, the endpoint computers in the local networks.
  2. Using Active Directory Domain Services.
  3. Using the special software related to databases.
  4. Using the special software related to projects (group work).
  5. Using the advanced graphics software for presentations (3D graphics).
  6. Using documents in MS Office formats - many cannot work properly on Chromebooks, especially the advanced Excel spreadsheets.
  7. Using the old peripherals.
Furthermore, the Chromebooks are Internet directed, which is not especially wanted in many organizations (data leakage). The access to corporate databases via Google Chrome would be considered as not safe. In most organizations the transformation from Windows to Chromebooks cannot be done gradually, and otherwise it cannot not be done at all, because of the enormous cost of the new hardware, software licenses, staff training, etc.
Let's forget about Chromebook vs. Windows competition in organizations for at least 10 years.

The opposite can be true for the home users who are not gaming, and use the computers for the basic tasks. Chromebooks can be especially useful for computer illiterate people, because:
  • it is hard to spoil something in the system;
  • the system can be quickly/easily restored, and is ready to work.
  • updates are quick and cause no problems;
  • the system is much safer;
  • Chromebooks are cheap and easy.

G Suite is very good, not on par with MS Office but it’s very good. It’s safer too

Biggest concern atm is to leave your data in a web drive owned by Google which Google , their employees and contractors plus any attacker who breaches their systems can decrypt. Companies who are careful with their data still want to host them onsite. If they provide a solution where they do not hold the decryption key, a lot more companies will be switching to G Suite

Would never buy a Chromebook, they are useless for productivity. I did many months of research before deciding to stick with Windows (laptop) and iOS (mobile). There is a reason Windows is used-by almost everyone. Chromebooks are over-priced or under-spec'd. A thousand dollar Google laptop or a Windows laptop with full desktop and gaming capabilities, guess what's better value. You can trash your way around saying Windows has malware, but it gets the job done; both on-line and off-line. Windows works for more people than Chromebook OS, it's popular in businesses, used in education and for-consumers.

Mac & iOS > Chromebook OS
Windows > Chromebook OS
Chromebook OS > Windows Mobile OS

If you think about the professional productivity, then Yes. Yet, there are many people who do not use computers for productivity, but for the basic tasks. The Chromebook capabilities are enough for them. Why they should use Windows? You do not need the music studio, when you like sometimes listen to the music.

Home Users also use computers for productivity. You talking extremely casual users who are better off just using their smartphone or even a cheap tablet.

Chromebook has nothing to offer in it's price range.

My wife is an IT specialist (database maintenance), but at home she uses the computer only for basic tasks, Internet shopping and banking. Many people have no time for anything else.
But, you are right that Chromebook can be especially suited for the casual users.

A friend of my other half bought a Chrome-book for her son, & asked me to set it up for her, at this point I thought it was a Windows lappy. It's very nice but the Office 365 application is not good & as he needs office for school I think I'm going to end up buying it off her & getting a Windows lappy for her & him. The Chrome-book is really nice but has its limitations, Office is one. Though for internet I find is great & easy to restore.

My wife has had a good life with her Chromebook. The only laptop she hasn't been compromised on or had complaints about this or that not working. It's awesome.. I get bored now (sometimes) because there is NOTHING to deal with about it. Bliss? Chromebooks are bliss for anyone that doesn't need specific windows apps.

Chromebook you can become bored fast because you don't play nonsense games with crashes, application issues, compromises, security software, lockdowns, or much of anything else. Which for some people, frees up time for more important things in life.

Not saying when you have the tester/tweaker blood, chromebook is indeed boring.
