COM Surrogate in SysWOW64

Hi all,

As I wrote in the form above, I've had strange issues with my laptop since yesterday. Basically, disk usage is periodically driven up to 100% by a COM Surrogate process in SysWOW64, with which I've never had problems before. I also spotted a strange Google Chrome process in the background yesterday - could that be related to the problem? Having read through some similar threads here, I assume this is a Trojan? I would be very grateful for some assistance on how to get rid of it if it is one. Neither my normal security tool (GData) nor a Malwarebytes Anti-Malware scan detected anything.

Best wishes and thanks in advance,
Daniel

  • Now, on the right side, click on Filter Current Log.
  • Under Event Sources, check only Wininit and click OK.
  • Now you'll be presented with one or multiple Wininit logs.
  • Click on an entry corresponding to the date and time of the disk check.
