I have used microsoft security essentials(defender) as far i can remember, have tried avast! and kaspersky a few times and they always got removed and placed by MSE.

Last time i was infected and possibly keylogged was in 2010, after that i havent found anything suspicious from my computers i have used

For few months i have been using comodo internet security, its very lightweight only downside is full scan takes around 25 minutes and i find myself paranoid and scan everyday because of ocd ( really. )

I have heard people talking about forticlient on other computing forum and im thinking what would forticlient do better than comodo does?

I have amd fx-6300, with gtx 970 and 8gb ram with hdd.

I only read news, do gaming, youtube the usual and pay bills once a month. I dont use credit card to buy anything online. If i would get infected i probably would just clean install windows instead of removing (trying to remove) malware

Im also finding comodos DNS faster than my ISP dns, i'm using mobile 4g modem and im using comodo stealth ports but as the ip address changes ''SHIELDSUP'' shows ports either closed or stealth im bit unsure should i stay with cruelsisters cf settings, switch to forticlient or use windows firewall.

Im sure forticlient have faster scan times atleast?

If you do care about scanning for threats that much then there're 2 options:
- Fortinet for its far better database for both malware & malicious domains. I will also combo Fortinet with NVT OSArmor since Fortinet itself is not so good against very new threats.
- Use Comodo and add 1 or more secondary scanners: Emsisoft Emergency Kit (portable), Zemana (portable), HitmanPro (portable), Malwarebytes..

Some scanners take longer to finish a scan just because they do deeper analysis whereas some may have worse algorithms. If you do a full scan, imo, just execute it when you're not using the PC for quite a time (bed time for me, so for this I cannot tell you which is faster ehehe).

I'd use FortiClient and Combo it with OSArmor or VoodooShield as treiss says.

FortiClient is literally the best Web Filtration you will find so you will be incredibly well protected with that alone. However I would augment it with OSA or VS because without a FortiGate/FortiSandbox, you're going to want something to back you up for extremely new threats.

FortiClient 6.0 is now out, and is very speedy, clean new interface, lots of bug fixes, new local logging display/format, and some under the hood goodies. I wouldn't touch Comodo with a 10 ft pole, but that's me.

microsoft security essentials(defender)

Just to clarify, Microsoft Security Essentials is similar to, but not identical to Windows Defender Antivirus for Windows 10. WDA has the advantage of newer technologies in the Windows 10 OS to make it stronger than MSE on older Windows.

Windows Defender for Windows 7 and below is solely an Antispyware software.

Yeah the web filtering and customizing it look so delicious, i should give it a go. i dont like disabling web shields just because they make browsing bit slower than usual, even im feeling bit more safe by then

Here's a trick with 6.0.. Install the Web Filtration Module. Then go to the Content Filter and disable content filtering. This will leave the malicious/phishing/spam web filtration enabled and your browsing will speed right back up. The content filtering (Porn, etc) is broken out into a different module now and that module actually does slow browsing slightly but with 6.0 and the above method, your speed should return.

Should i stick with windows firewall , use forticlients own or go with cruelsister ( u dont like comodo so the 3rd option isnt valid)

FortiClient doesn't have a firewall - at all. The Application Firewall in it is designed for application control via a FortiGate appliance, and FortiClient works under the assumption your FortiGate is the operational firewall.

So if you want a Firewall, you'll need WF or a third party one.

Stupid question but, is it possible to use forticlient as web filters only? and have cloud av instead, the memory usage is pretty high with av module

Is it necessary to register on Fortinet Beta to access a download?

I put a private link to 6.0 since it might take a week to update their website for it. It's in this thread.

Update - FortiClient 6.0.0 (Windows)

Also, yes you can run it just with the web filter and disable every other module. Do that on installation of it, uncheck everything but web filtration.

Right now i have:
- comodo internet security with cruelsisters firewall settings
- norton dns
- google Chrome + nanoblock (600k filters, mostly ransomwaretracker, hostfiles, squid) nanodefender, avira browser safety, malwarebytes browser extension, Windows defender browser protection

Running sometimes malwarebytes free + hitmanpro

Should i add fortinet web filter, or is it bit overkill?

Also lately i have been using edge with nanoblocker, mcafee webadvisor and popup blocker (strict) so fortinet web filter would be good for edge imo

I think it's all a bit overkill and be advised that norton dns is shutting down:
Norton ConnectSafe DNS is shutting down — This is what you need to do
You could loose avira browser safety (uses mixpanel and the malwarebytes browser extension is much better) and possibly the windows defender browser protection extension.
IMO no need for more webfiltering from fortinet.
I would go for Comodo Firewall with @cruelsister settings and a light av (other then Comodo) for if Comodo misses something.
To quote @Windows_Security : Less is more.

CIS by default (comodo internet securyti) is more than enough for a normal user.

A normal usury.
- NORMALLY ONLY NAVIGATES (youtube, facebook etc).
-Not inetala unknown programs.
- Their main threat are the PUPs.

Comodo will isolate any threat by default and should not disturb.

CIS IS FREE .
FORTICLIENTE NO FREE T.T

I'm running forticlient 5.6.6.1167 for web filter, and it reports up to date, ie, it does not update to 6.0. do I need to delete 5.6 and do fresh install of 6.0? and if 5.6.6 is running well any advantage to up'ing to 6.0??

6.0 is a major upgrade with new interface and other goodies. 6.01 is out now, which was some bug fixes. 6.1 is due very soon. If you don't have it set to update in settings it will ignore all program updates. There are plenty of reasons why I would go to 6.01, the new interface, better logging, and some under the hood changes are worth it.

FortiClient runs about every other month on releases. So the next one is due in September as the last one was July 23'rd. (6.01)
