Confessions of a computer repairman

I can't believe people pay for stuff like this. I have seen people go to computer repair shops because they can't get to one web page so they tell them they have a virus and reinstall Windows for them causing them to lose everything. Then they charge them all that money for just simple work.

I know someone that could not get their new computer setup properly and they said they called a tech support company and the tech company said for 100+ bucks they could fix it over the phone. I offered to do it for them but because I don't work for a tech support company they asked the tech support company to do it for the 100 bucks and it must have been a little simple because they were able to fix it over the phone.
 
I remember once having a 'tech' tell me that 3 1/2" floppy disks were removable hard drives. :rolleyes:
 
Good 'article'... thanks for the post... A 'sly' PC repairman is just like a 'sly' car mechanic... they both take advantage of anothers lack of understanding...

I don't claim to be as knowledgeable as most of 'ya' guys but my 'System-Image' which I keep close by sure helps to avoid some of these issues...

Forums, such as this one, have enabled me to make better choices and ask better questions... such as having a system image solution nearby... gracias to 'ya all'...

Just goes to show people need to open their eyes before considering going to a computer repair man.
 
I've often asked (begged) relatives and friends to let me look at their PC first before they send it to a repair guy. I just don't like these people. Even if they are supposedly trustworthy.

Thanks buddy. I certainly know what you and other mean though, I am angered by what I see locally sometimes and the stories some tell they went through. :@
 
one day someone called me in a hurry to fix their computer: i fix it in 1 sec :

issue: error 404...
solution: press F5
bill: 50 euros (around 70usd)
