Cracking PC games is getting too difficult, say pirates

Pirates attempting to crack the latest PC games are finding it more difficult than ever, according to a report from TorrentFreak, and it's causing some well-known cracking groups to consider giving up the effort.

Over the last 18 months in particular there were a number of releases that took an unusually long time to crack. It took pirates over a month to crack Dragon Age: Inquisition, which is much longer than the norm, while more recent games like FIFA 16 (released in September) and Just Cause 3 (released in December) haven't been cracked at all.

A member of Chinese cracking group 3DM, speaking to TorrentFreak, said that one member of the group nearly gave up trying to crack Just Cause 3 because the DRM technology implemented was too strong. The member added that "in two years time I’m afraid there will be no free games to play in the world" due to the increasing strength of encryption technology.

Just Cause 3 and the other aforementioned games use a technology known as Denuvo, which is a secondary encryption system designed to strengthen the existing DRM in many games. Unlike older DRM solutions, Denuvo is generally not obtrusive or annoying for legitimate paying customers, which makes it particularly valuable for game publishers.

If developers continue to use technologies such as Denuvo, we might never see the days where PC games were cracked at or even before launch again. This could make the PC a more attractive and profitable platform, which will only improve the experience for PC gamers in the long run.

I'm a hardcore gamer, but the fact is that there are many amazing freeware games out there to play from talented developers, and many of them don't know about this. For paid games I've a collection of them, and the ones that I crack are Japanese visual novels (obviously translated into English, but they are hard to get by). They do have the best stories that gaming has got to offer.

I would like to note the case of Undertale.

The game is easily one of the most amazing games I have played in my life, considering the moral teachings it offers alone.
As a concept and execution, in my opinion, it is flawless.

However, the thing I wanted to point out is that, even though it is distributed through Steam (someone would expect at least a basic form of authentication or DRM protection), UNDERTALE IS NOT PROTECTED AND DOES NOT REQUIRE AUTHENTICATION IN ANY WAY.

This only impresses me more. Toby Fox is fearless and bad**s in every way. :D

I'm no longer a gamer since 2009, but in assurance yes me and my older brother played few games that are literally cracked because of 'copy-paste' something on the program files to make it work.

However in such realization, if you have a budget at all then why not purchase; sometimes shortcuts are more prone on problems than you enjoy the leisure.

Console games and systems were much easier before to hack and mod.Although the Xbox required a jtag however it still was easy enough to do if you knew basic soldering. The Playstation was a breeze since the HDD could be removed and hooked to a PC and put back in.
Modded lobbies with infections were a lot of fun however pirating, modding and hacking these and games has become extremely hard.
Personally for me i is much easie rto just buy them than spending time going the pirated route.
I have given up PC gaming and only game on Xbox One

when i played games , it was mostly RPG onlines ones like WOW; so you don't need to crack them since you have to pay a monthly fee.

I play mostly only steam games. The only games I don't have on steam is The Sims 3, World of Tanks, Need for Speed World . I used to download pirated games like Mafia and Grand theft auto but not anymore I would rather pay for them and keep my computer clean also it is legal.

I play Dota 2 and football manager (FM) 2016. Dota 2 is free and I got steam gift from my friend for FM 2016.
:)
for gaming piracy, when I saw my hardcore game friend, they don't mind to buy premium game since game developers make it more affordable right now (and harder to get stable crack).

agreed. keygen/patcher/crack can be used as trojan horse for malware.
