Crypto malware abilities?

Hi guys, does anyone have experience with what kind of network shares that are vulnerable to these crypto viruses?
Is there for example any difference in "crypt success" for the virus if the shares are on a Windows files server or on a Linux?
I am curious as I am installing a unRAID solution here with a xfs file system, are files in here vulnerable?
