I was watching alot of youtube videos and I just fell asleep. I woke up with this crazy virus called cryptowall 3.0 on my computer. Most of my files are corrupted and will not open. I don't have any backups either. (very stupid, I know.) I'm not to be able to use system restore because it gives me a system admin error. I would upload a mcafee scanlog but I don't know where they get stored.

Download attached fixlist.txt file and save it to the Desktop:

Both files, FRST and fixlist.txt have to be in the same location or the fix will not work!

  • Right-click on
    FRST.gif
    icon and select
    RunAsAdmin.jpg
Run as Administrator to start the tool.
(XP users click run after receipt of Windows Security Warning - Open File).
  • Press the Fix button just once and wait.
  • If for some reason the tool needs a restart, please make sure you let the system restart normally. After that let the tool complete its run.
  • When finished FRST will generate a log on the Desktop, called Fixlog.txt.

I did the fix and my computer restarted. The virus seems to be gone. I see the files no more and my computer is running more smoothly. System restore appears to work, but I have not done it yet. My files are still encrypted/corrupted. I have heard about this here: https://support.drweb.com/new/free_unlocker/?keyno=&for_decode=1 that can get your files back but I don't know how to apply for this because I don't have this serial number it asks for. and I know about the piracy rule already. I have done no piracy to get this virus. it just seemed to appear. Would you suggest I do a system restore? (not of that same day though, of course)
Edit: some of the help_decrypt.txt/.png/.html are actually still in some folders.

Pardon me for interrupting- Knux- that link for the Dr Web site is only for a specific Encryptor that was around in early 2014. FireEye assisted in seizing the Malware servers and liberated the decrypt keys. It doesn't help for anything else. The original (and official) page was here: https://www.decryptcryptolocker.com/

It's really inexcusable that Dr Web has this page up; it's almost like they are those that are extorting money from people (must have a serial number indeed!).

The system restore didn't work, but instead messed up my web browser somehow. :/ (it keeps refreshing for no reason)
I'm going to try to do this in safe mode to get my files back.
Edit: it claims my system is not infected by cryptolocker...
I have no options left. my files are gone. :/

You may find some random exe in either App Data\Local\Temp or in Roaming, but it would be of no consequence to find and delete it is there isn't any auto-start mechanism for it. Plus the malware writer has sadly already accomplished the his (note- not her) purpose in toasting your files.

Really sorry that it happened to you.

Hi there,
Would you be able to help me with this too? I am uploading the Fixlog.txt file after following your instructions. Do you think there is a chance to have my files "un-encrypted"? Thank you so much in advance.
