Last month, Microsoft announced a range of new features that were coming to the Xbox One. While the firm released that update today, some of the promised features didn't make the cut, and one of those was Custom Gamerpics.

As was promised earlier this week, Custom Gamerpics have been turned on for Preview Alpha members of the Xbox Insider Program. In order to get the feature, you won't even need to download a new build. Here's what you need to do:

For Profiles:
  1. Prepare a custom Gamerpic image. The image must be at least 1080x1080 pixels. The following formats are supported: png, jpg.
  2. Save the image to a USB flash drive, and insert the drive into one of the Xbox One’s USB ports.
  3. On your Xbox One, launch the Guide, select your Profile, and navigate to My profile > Customize profile > Change gamerpic.
  4. Select Upload a custom image, select your USB flash drive, and choose your custom Gamerpic image.
  5. The image will load into an editor; use LT, RT, and right stick to highlight what section of the image will become your Gamerpic.
  6. Once satisfied, select Upload.
For Clubs:
  1. Prepare a custom Club image. Club profile pics must be at least 1080x1080 pixels, and Club background images must be at least 1920x1080 pixels. The following formats are supported: png, jpg.
  2. Save the image(s) to a USB flash drive, and insert the drive into one of the Xbox One’s USB ports.
  3. Navigate to your Club Info page and select Change profile pic or Add background image.
  4. Select your USB flash drive, and choose your custom image.
  5. The image will load into an editor; use LT, RT, and right stick to highlight what section of the image will become your Club profile pic or Club background image.
  6. Once satisfied, select Upload.
You'll notice that these instructions require you to load the image onto a USB flash drive, and there's a reason for this. Selecting images from OneDrive isn't supported just yet for this feature; however, it seems that it will be eventually, since this was listed as a known issue.

Presumably, Custom Gamerpics will roll out to the general public with the next feature update. That wasn't the only feature that didn't make the cut for 1704, so Microsoft should be releasing the next version to Alpha ring Insiders soon.
