Sony Issues Warning Over Vaio Battery Fire Risk

Sony said on Friday there was a risk that batteries made by Panasonic in nearly 26,000 of Sony's newest Vaio personal computers could overheat and catch fire, the latest product glitch for the Japanese electronics and entertainment giant.

As a result, Sony is asking customers to stop using its Vaio Fit 11A laptop as soon as possible.

Sony said it had received three reports of batteries overheating causing partial burns to Vaio computers. The first incident was in Japan on March 19, followed by similar incidents on March 30 in Hong Kong and April 8 in China. The company stopped selling the product at the beginning of this month.

Our Sony 15.5" screen Vaio VPCEH lap top introduced us to the niceties of Windows 7; and I'm using it right now.;) Purchased in 2010, it has been a trouble free crown jewel that has shared rotating duties with an HP XP desktop (recently dual booted with lumbuntu) and a Windows 8.1 Acer Aspire lap top. It's too bad Sony, a company that has put out high quality long lasting products, is exiting the international PC marketplace with an embarassing gasp:oops: rather than a triumphant cheer. I'd definitely be open to buying a good used or refurbished Vaio, just not :eek:the Fit 11-A!:):D

As a person who likes Sony products, I hope you're referring to the Panasonic batteries. :)
Good point, Huracan! Just because your Ferrari might have a faulty power source that shouldn't mean it's destined for the scrap heap.:)
..that is, unless Ferrari stopped production, sold to a Japanese corporation, & then stopped importing to the rest of the world.
Anyway, I'd still drive your sports car. (once we dropped a non-outsourced battery into it!):D
