Technically, yes. Using Group policies via registry on Home, I would not use Edge without it. Policies are respected, unlike user's settings.

I don’t apply Group Policies manually, because Hard_Configurator is like having a Gregorian monk reciting them while a Zen hacker executes them: I just click and let Andy Ful’s mystical chant protect my PC

I also use 3 policies in Firefox + 3 policies in Chrome.
But the OP's question probably didn't include this possibility.

I dislike being interrupted by unplanned update; can easily forget what I was going to modify during the update period.

I have, but the thesis is not mine; it's for students I supervise.

I tried that. It does bring out gpedit, but the policies themselves don't work.

A less "intrusive" solution would be setting the network as metered whenever you have work or pausing the updates for a week. That makes sure you never miss critical security updates.

Another option is to manually download the updates from Microsoft Update Catalogue
