I would like to know how many members here use SARDU, and if you don't.
State your reason why you don't use it. You might use something different, What do you use instead? Even if you just have one bootable AV burnt to a disc. Tell us :)

Updating my old SARDU.

I'm also looking a suitable Linux boot disk to add to SARDU that can be used for accessing files and backing them up if need be. Here are my options. Anyone have opinions on which to use?

I'll be using a spare EXHDD for backup so it must work with that.

Oh that's a shame. If you have any spare blank CD's laying around you can use them for SARDU.

Ofcause, but software gets updated now and then. Gonna buy some usb sticks soon along with a externhdd.
 
No I don't use it. Until the other day I had never heard if it. I currently use Hiern Boot CD. Recently up dated mine as well.
 
I have never used such bootable cd. I am aware of them but I never had any reason to use one and I hope I won't have any reason.

I have used Ubuntu, Damn Small Linux and Puppy Linux.

All 3 are handy.

I remember seeing a guide somewhere to boot from Ubuntu and retrieve files.

Have you tried out DSL or Puppy yet?

Depending on if you have used or not, you could stick either one of the 3 to SARDU.

I personally don't like Sardu although I have used it before. Still prefer Hiren's and the good old Linux boot disk in case I need to retrieve files for a friend etc.


What I find it interesting is that they have the option for Fedora and Backtrack and no Slackware or Gentoo or even Xubuntu.
 
sometimes I use it for my job.
it depends on internet connection, if using a USB modem, it is necessary to press the "connect" or something like that, I think it can not use it. Like my connection, I can not use it.
for the point is I rarely use this tool.
 
I haven't used SARDU. In the past I have used Ultimate Boot CD for Windows (which has not been updated since 2010). I recently downloaded Hiren's BootCD 15.1 and will use this if needed. As for Linux, in the past I used KNOPPIX for file recovery on a dead Windows hard drive.

I've only tried Ubuntu out of those 3 mentioned.

The file sizes are DSL (50MB) PuppyLinux (124MB) Ubuntu (695MB)

I don't believe I need the entire Ubuntu system (695MB) just to do a simple file backup. So as of now I'm downloading DSL and Puppy and will test them out before adding to SARDU. Cheers.
 
To be honest since I actually have the Live CDs for Linux, it never made much difference to me, however DSL was known and still is known at one point for its size and it is actually favoured to use as a recovery file but... There has been no development for over 3 years...

One of the newer projects from one of the guys of DSL was Tiny Core Linux but I haven't tested it. You also got a variant of TCL which is Micro Core Linux which does not have graphical desktop.
TCL latest version is 4.1 released on the 19th of Nov 2011 or 20th of Nov (not sure)

I should have said this last night but due to the fact it was a long day, I forgot to tell you DSL is dead.

anyone know how i can burn multiple Boot Images in one disk ?

tried couple of tools but they restrict your choice of Distros

Try XBoot (requires .NET Framework 4.0): http://www.askvg.com/xboot-free-utility-to-create-multiboot-usb-and-cd/

You could also try MultiCD.

Good thin about MultiCD is that it supports quite a few distros.

I have it on a CD, (yes a CD) and have never used it. SARDU is my tool of choice, however I can't find a DVD or a pen stick, so I'm stuck with a CD which is not updated. Hiren's is good, and it provides a Windows-like environment, with usual programs.
May if I can, buy a pen stick and load a lot of software from SARDU on to it, as it is like one DVD for everything, which is handy.

For those who have problems: you tried latest beta version? With MobaLive CD boot fine? (i'm working for next version to add support to Qemu)
I'm thinking to release as stable last beta with some small changes.

you can make very useful tool and effective for malware removals. with don't need using many DVDs for rescue disc from AVs vendor.
