Egypt’s Supreme Council for Media Regulation (SCMR) has decided to officially block the online gaming platform Roblox in Egypt, citing concerns over risks to children and adolescents, SCMR Vice Chairman Essam El-Amir announced on Sunday.

The move follows a proposal submitted days earlier by Senator Walaa Hermas Radwan, calling for the regulation of the electronic gaming platform Roblox to protect children’s moral and educational values, limit associated psychological and behavioural risks, and organize the operation of electronic gaming platforms more broadly.

Egypt would not be alone in taking action against the gaming platform Roblox, as several countries have previously moved to block, restrict, or regulate the platform over child-safety and content concerns.

Iraq and Algeria have imposed nationwide bans citing risks related to inappropriate content, online harassment, and exposure of minors to strangers, while access to Roblox is blocked in China under broader internet censorship regulations.

Turkey has also temporarily banned the platform pending stricter compliance with local content rules, and a number of Gulf countries, including Saudi Arabia and the UAE, have imposed limitations on features such as in-game chat and content moderation rather than a full ban.

Proton VPN sign-ups were 320% above normal levels in Egypt on Monday, amid reports of Discord being banned by several ISPs in the country. This continues a spike that began over the weekend.

My grandson uses that platform, though as I have eight grandchildren one who is thirteen & female & was send particularly nasty & highly illegal photographs & messages the other day on social media on a personal basis I can see why limitations are implemented, however parental responsibility should enter into this but often does not, I feel?

It can be bypassed by vpn, as in the case with Discord previously.

@Parkinsond what VPN's are available in Egypt these days as I remember a while ago some were not available?
I was using the extension years ago, such as Browsec and Zenmate, but they stopped working like a couple of years ago.

Then tried Proton app (free) on W; it works but takes long to connect and the speed is very limited.

I can only imagine that countries that implement measures to ban platforms would really like to make VPN's illegal too, the recent measures by the government here in UK have probably just moved savvy teens into using a VPN & the dinosaurs in London are still getting to grips with email & text messaging, if they got that far yet ??

(what idiot would want to give details & photograph to say I want to see "pron sites) But from the governments point of view they have done something & this then gives parents a false sense of security :unsure:

They definitely trying to block vpn services in Egypt; as described, it was easier to use before, currently I face difficulty.
this then gives parents a false sense of security :unsure:
I do not censor the internet activity of my kids; just telling them what I consider right and wrong, and letting them decide and bear the consequences.

UK MP's & House of Lords in action, taken this morning

On the occasion mentioned, two Police did turn up at her house for a half hour interview with my daughter in law, & granddaughter (she did nothing wrong) but it was very distressing for them both so it does bring it home more when that occurs.. I was there at the time - It is really is none of my business as all my children are over 25, but I do wonder about the future for others. last comment

Here if police turn up at house, then it is a political issue.
