Hey guuuuys!

Im trying to get an practicant vacancy in IT security at bank…
They sent me a question to decide whether i go to the next part – interview or not…
HELP ME PLEASE!!

The question roughly is –

You work in a bank as IT security specialist and you recieve an email from anonymous sender that reads "Your bank network is hacked"
  • What do you do in this situation to make sure if network is really hacked or its fake?
  • What do you do if you discover that networks and systems is hacked?

PLEASE HELP, THANKS A LOT!! <3

Considering you're mentioning an IT security assignment at bank, honestly I think it is not appropriate to ask here the answers to those questions.
Answers that you should know.

Unfortunately i have to agree @wildwilmaa, if you can't answer that question for yourself then perhaps you are not quite qualified for that particular job but the same principal would apply regardless of whether it was a bank or not. Sorry because i don't mean it to be harsh or hurtful towards you :(

Lets see, you want a job in IT security, and need help in answering the most simple questions. I hope for the sake of the bank and all its customers you dont get the job.
At the moment I shall take your post as a joke (:

Despite I agree with everybody above me, I understand it's a practicant job, so they're hiring basically students, so they may want to train you. If this is the case, then you may be good if you still don't know everything, despite how basic this may seem.

In your particular position, I would first check all network connections to spot possible breaches or intruders, software or processes sending suspicious traffic. Check all connection logs. Check no interferences between router-client rather than the captive portal and no MitM. If the fact is given that you detect any anomalies, I would rather shut the whole network off and manually clean the network, reset it to default and import saved configurations.
