Stronger security for your MalwareTips Account

We would like to introduce to our community a new feature that will greatly increase your account security: 2-Step Verification.
With 2-Step Verification, you'll protect your account with something you know (your password) and something you have (your phone or email). If your password is ever compromised, this 2-Step Verification process will help prevent unauthorized access to your account.

The verification codes are uniquely crafted for your account when you need them. The verification code will be sent to your phone via a mobile app (Authy or Google Authenticator) or via email. Each code can only be used once.

It's easier than you think for someone to steal your password

Any of these common actions could put you at risk of having your password stolen:
  • Using the same password on more than one site
  • Downloading software from the Internet
  • Clicking on links in email messages that lead to phishing sites
2-Step Verification can help keep bad guys out, even if they have your password.

Signing in to your account will work a little differently
2-Step Verification increases the security of your account by requiring you to provide an additional code to complete the login process. Here are the two steps that you will need to perform when you log in into your MalwareTips account.

  1. You'll enter your password
Whenever you sign in to your MalwareTips account, you'll enter your password as usual.
  2. You'll be asked for the verification code
Then, depending on how you setup the verification process, a code will be sent to your email, or one of the supported mobile apps.
During sign-in, you can choose not to use 2-Step Verification again on that particular computer for 30 days. From then on, that computer will only ask for your password when you sign in.
You'll still be covered, because when you or anyone else tries to sign in to your account from another computer, 2-Step Verification will be required.

How to enable 2-Step Verification

  1. Open your account details, then go to Password and security.

Once you have done this, you will need to scan the QR code on thais page into the app and enter the generated code below to confirm. Alternatively, you may enter the provided secret into the app directly.

  6. After completing the setup process, you will be prompted to save the two-step verification backup codes that have automatically been generated. Each of these codes can be used once in case you don't have access to other means of verification. These codes should be saved in a secure location.
