Barring that ESET has best web protection ratio in Avast, but files and Protection Detection Day 0, you might think.

Added Poll.

I would consider ESET offers more than avast!, although they both use different zero-day mechanisms.

While a Software Updater is great for keeping software up to date, it doesn't always prevent attacks against unknown/zero-day vulnerabilities (ie. Java exploits). Also the range of software that avast! may check could be limited, whereas ESET's Exploit Blocker would be system-wide (assumption). By the way, the 'Automatic' Software Updater is only available in Avast Premier, not Internet Security.

As previously mentioned earlier this week, as a free product Avast Free is great. However their paid version doesn't feel like it has much value. Their Sandbox/SafeZone is ideal for isolated environments, but isn't as flexible as other free options, that's why Avast Free is better (IMHO).

In all honesty, if you're paying for something, ESET Smart Security 7 would get my vote.

Your views may differ.

If you enable Detection of Potentially Unwanted & Unsafe Application, Than i am sure there will be very less AV which will be able to beat ESET in terms of Zero-Day Protection.

I'd go for ESET, although I've used avast for about 4 years.

I can't bear it for even for 4 days, there Adv. for upgrading to there Premium version are very annoying, which irritates me a lot.

Eset is superior both in terms of detection rate and options

I think most members of MalwareTips choose ESET because:
1. Very light
2. Fast & Accurate Scans
3. Decent Firewall
4. No distractions
Where it (kinda) fails:
1. Not the best parental controls
2. Not the best URL blocker

Overall:
ESET= 4 (Light, good scans, decent firewall, and no distractions)
Avast=3 (Quite good URL blocking, unique scans, and sandbox)
