The latest stable version for F-Secure on PC have been updated to 17.4 and that includes SAFE and the Antivirus version. The update should happen automatic.

F-Secure does not post any official changelog or releaselog other then on the appstores but that's out of sync as it's for the mobile versions and it also lacks information. Correct update information is still found in the local UpgradeMessages folder.
  • Cloudbase protection is automatic activated for all users during installation
  • Improved Bank Protection
  • Improved Usability
  • Bugfixes etc

I really like F-Secure, but i wish it would be lighter when updating, because it causes high cpu usage for me. It has always been like this and the usual answer from their support is "have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling it" they always say that when i try to report any problems to them..

CPU normaly goes up when a software is in usage for example, updating or scan then depending on what hardware you have or what else you do at the same time etc the CPU usage can be more or less but that you or anybody else probably already know.

In this case if I was you I would contact the support again and this time include the diagnostic file you get from running the support tool that is included with F-Secure. Check start menu and in the folder. Also include a screenshot on your task manager and the update information window in F-Secure as all this should help the support much better. If it actually will solve your issue, that's something else but it's IMO the correct way to go. Good luck!
