I'm sure F-Secure is hurting due to all the changes they've been making especially over the last year, that they have now included upgrade offers on my Internet Security I installed tonight (fresh install). Even though I turned off the Notification option in the settings, and followed the prompts (led to My F-Secure portal to upgrade) and I did a couple of restarts, it's still there. When I contacted Chat support he wasn't able to help in regards to disabling those features offered on the main UI, but that if I was using Total Security, there wouldn't be any notifications as it would include everything. Since I had previously included the VPN for $10. on 3 devices, that didn't show as something I need to upgrade to.

It was a clean, no nag ride for awhile with the Internet Security, but how many other paid AV's do this as well (Gen Digital, Bitdefender AV+, I.S. and some of it's panels that suggest the PM etc. availability)? This was the last comment by Chat support ( I have worked with him 2-3 times over the years, and is very gracious and helpful, as much as he can be).

The apps will activate the function based on your
subscription information based on the email that you
have register on My F-Secure portal

Upsell offers amongst the vendors using third-party technologies make perfect sense, as the company “leases” software development kits (in this case several Avira kits) and the revenue comes through “bells and whistles” that the vendor adds inhouse.

So these upgrade offerings are even late to join the party, I’m surprised it hasn’t been done earlier.

But at least they don’t resort to scareware tactics like their colleagues at Gen Digital.

Nothing puts me off a product more than upgrade nags, If I wanted bells & whistles on a product I would have bought it in the first place, me I really do not - 99.9% of average users neither know nor care about this, maybe F-Secure should add further cartoons to their product to make it look even more unprofessional?

F-Secure never shone with professional and good-looking interface.

I've mentioned the cartoon images as well on their forum as coming across unprofessional. They seem to be okay with it, I believe Avast One does the same thing?

And at least you can collapse the top panel and it hides the cartoon characters and those summary stats, which does give it a cleaner look.

I think one still survives even one you collapse it, I find it looks ridiculous & could be used constructively, but maybe I'm old fashioned - I expect more of this on other programs?

Once you collapse it, is stays collapsed on the other module windows accessed. It even stays that way when you close out of it completely and reopen it, even with custom scaling set in Windows settings on both of my notebooks. I'm not trying to sell it, but it's just my experience with that setting :)

Honestly, the cartoonish style doesn't bother me at all. The fact that it's there doesn't give me the impression of a non-professional product or one reserved only for kids. So I wouldn't give it any weight since it's a secondary aspect. For an antivirus software, there's a lot more to consider.
I agree and it's not going to stop me from using it. But, if they could attract a broader base of subscribers to help attract more engineers and developers couldn't hurt?
App Review - McAfee: how bad is the worst antivirus?

I think part of it too are all the ISPs and European education centers they provide their rebranded version of, maybe is a revenue stream they can lean on and I wonder if those apps have the same "art work"?

And maybe F-Secure knows it's place in the world of AV's that it's a more user friendly AV. That they know they're not a power users AV like Kaspersky or Eset and are okay with some "art work" for their users to smile at, something different?

Now, if Kaspersky or Eset overnight had a roller skater cartoon banner across the top of their UI, heads would roll, and rightly so :) :)

The F-Secure UI does have its positive sides, for example for many years it has allowed reading of news or submitting samples (which very few not to say none do). It allows you to do everything that has to be done in an antivirus. You also can’t say that it’s messy or chaotic, it’s easy to get around.

The illustrations are gonna be removed at one point.
