Hi,

I'm having trouble with a plug-in in Google Chrome. The Plug-in is called 'FiindBBesttDeal' (1.5). If I remove the extension, and I then re-open Chrome, the extension is back again. This plug-in causes pop-up ads in websites (it says 'ads from SafeSaver'), and also gives ads in e.g. Google Search.

I've followed the following guide: http://malwaretips.com/blogs/safe-saver-virus-removal/
Step 1 from the guide does not give me a programme called SafeSaver. There were two others (of which I don't remember the name anymore), but I think those were definitely the programs that caused the problem (name had something with 'deals' in it). I removed them, then did step 2 for my two browsers (Chrome and IE), then step 3 and 4. I checked whether it worked, but like I said, everytime the plug-in reappeared when opening Chrome. I did step 3 and 4 again, but it did not find any malware anymore. Yet, the plug-in keeps reappearing, and therefore the adds that are bothering me, too.

I really don't know what I can do about this (my computer knowledge is quite limited). I hope the information is clear enough and that somebody can solve my problem. Many thanks in advance!

Hi and welcome to the malwaretips.com forums!

I'm Kuttus and I am going to try to assist you with your problem. Please take note of the below:
  • I will start working on your malware issues, this may or may not, solve other issues you have with your machine.
  • The fixes are specific to your problem and should only be used for this issue on this machine!
  • The process is not instant. Please continue to review my answers until I tell you your machine is clear. Absence of symptoms does not mean that everything is clear.
  • If you don't know, stop and ask! Don't keep going on.
  • Please reply to this thread. Do not start a new topic.
  • Refrain from running self fixes as this will hinder the malware removal process.
  • It may prove beneficial if you print of the following instructions or save them to notepad as I post them.
Your security programs may give warnings for some of the tools I will ask you to use. Be assured, any links I give are safe.

Before we start:
Please be aware that removing malware is a potentially hazardous undertaking. I will take care not to knowingly suggest courses of action that might damage your computer. However it is impossible for me to foresee all interactions that may happen between the software on your computer and those we'll use to clear you of infection, and I cannot guarantee the safety of your system. It is possible that we might encounter situations where the only recourse is to re-format and re-install your operating system, or to necessitate you taking your computer to a repair shop.

Because of this, I advise you to backup any personal files and folders before you start.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

No matter is Adware Cleaner Detect Something. Click on Clean......

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Please download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your desktop.

Note: You need to run the version compatibale with your system. If you are not sure which version applies to your system download both of them and try to run them.
Only one of them will run on your system, that will be the right version.

  • Double-click to run it. When the tool opens click Yes to disclaimer.
  • Press Scan button.
  • It will make a log (FRST.txt) in the same directory the tool is run. Please attach it to your reply.
  • The first time the tool is run, it makes also another log (Addition.txt). Please attach it to your reply.

I had already done the 1st, 2nd and 4th step already in the guide I mentioned, but I did them again today. The logs are attached to this reply. For AdwCleaner I did not know whether I had to attach S1 or S2 (because I think S1 was from the first scan, yesterday), so I attached both.
I also attached the two files from the third step.

Download attached fixlist.txt on the same location as FRST (otherwise the fix won't work)

Open FRST, and click Fix. Attach me that report after it is finished.

After this step try to remove the Plugin.......

Thanks for your fast reply!

Unfortunately, the FiindBBesttDeal (1.5) plug-in is still coming back when I delete it and re-open Chrome.

I've attached the fixlog-document.

Do I have to do the thing with FRST again or not?
Because when I only log-off my Google Account, restart the computer and remove the plug-in, it still comes back..

No need to do the FRST again...

Please run the following utility so that I can get a log of your system...
STEP 1 : Run a scan with Combofix
Please read and follow very carefully the below instructions

Download ComboFix from one of the following locations:

COMBOFIX DOWNLOAD LINK #1 (This link will automatically download Combofix on your computer)
COMBOFIX DOWNLOAD LINK #2 (This link will automatically download Combofix on your computer)
----------------------------------------------------------------
VERY IMPORTANT !!! Save ComboFix.exe to your Desktop

  • Close any open browsers.
  • Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.
Very Important! Temporarily disable your anti-virus, script blocking and any anti-malware real-time protection before performing a scan. They can interfere with ComboFix or remove some of its embedded files which may cause "unpredictable results".
  • WARNING: Combofix will disconnect your machine from the Internet as soon as it starts. Please do not attempt to re-connect your machine back to the Internet until Combofix has completely finished.
If there is no internet connection after running Combofix, then restart your computer to restore back your connection.
-----------------------------------------------------------------

How to run the Combofix scan :
  1. Double click on ComboFix.exe & follow the prompts.
  2. Accept the disclaimer and allow to update if it asks
  3. When finished, it shall produce a log for you.
  4. Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply.

Additional notes:

1. Do not mouse-click Combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.
2. Do not "re-run" Combofix. If you have a problem, reply back for further instructions.
3. If after the reboot you get errors about programms being marked for deletion then reboot, that will cure it.

I've done what you said. I have attached the file to this reply. I just noticed that some words are in Dutch, but I hope that does not bother you.

Some extra information about the scan, of which I doubt whether you need it. The beginning of the scan went quite fast, then after removing some folders, it took like 30 minutes before it continued. Also the creation of the log took relatively long (while it said it should take only some seconds).
