Firefox is steamrolling ahead with its browser updates and Firefox 18 has just hit the shelves for Mozilla. This update does bring a couple of new features to the browser including Retina display support on OS X and a first crack at support for WebRTC.

Mozilla has been feverishly climbing through the build numbers and not everyone seems to enjoy the new direction. While Google also participates in this build number race, Microsoft has stuck to the traditional platform updates.

I'm really not happy with this "build number race"
It should be the traditional platform updates.
Every new big version update that says something like 18.0, 19.0, 20.0, etc. should be a major update with tons of new features, bug fixes, or just some massive overhaul.
Right now its just minor changes which should be like 4.2.X or 5.4 something like that.
Like Firefox 4 (where Mozilla started doing this) was released March 22, 2011 and its on version 18 already.
If Mozilla still did this traditional platform update, it could have been firefox 8 better than ever.
This number race is just hurting both browsers and IE10 IMHO..is the better browser now.
(Minus the lack of plug-ins)

I agree. I do like rapid release cycle because I like to get excited about new releases. I enjoyed the fast updates with version 4,5,6,7 and then I started to get bored due to the lack of new features. :(

This 'build number race' is just awful.

When I was waiting for Firefox 4, I was so excited about this big update. Now, it's simply constant updates with nothing really becoming of them. Chrome, with their constant updates do add features for almost every update, and make the browser fast and exciting.

Firefox hasn't done this.
