Numerous web browsers have already stopped supporting Windows XP and Vista, but not Firefox. To this day, Mozilla's latest software can work with your decade-old PC. However, even that team has its limits -- it's phasing out support for XP and Vista starting next year. Mozilla will start by moving users on these operating systems to the Extended Support Release in March 2017, limiting them to feature updates that can be "several cycles" behind the curve. And while the company plans to unveil a final support end date in the middle of that year, it'll effectively cut the cord in September, when it stops delivering security updates.

Smart move to discontinue support- Wish it was done a little earlier but it gives businesses and end users time to finally migrate I suppose. Good move to transition legacy to ESR releases and provide security patches so the browser can keep up its marketshare. Hopefully, they can shore up their browser - particularly xul.dll, which tends to crash IMHO. When you don't have to support legacy systems, you can focus on current technology - including security. This includes leveraging built in things even as simple as ASLDR.

Windows XP is an absolute colander and honeypot for malware and attacks based on exploits.
I'm surprised that Firefox still supports XP by encouraging instead of deter, the use of this old and insecure OS.

Honestly it's time to move on, Firefox and many others became an instrument to retain some users on using vulnerable OS; since the stakes of risk are higher than using Windows 7 and above.

The table goes to Opera browser as it still remains to be supported on XP and Vista systems.

I actually submitted feedback regarding to them discontinuing support for XP months ago
