With Norton Solutions, we strive to bring industry-leading, valuable, and relevant security to help protect your devices and personal information. Occasionally, we reassess our portfolio of security solutions and features to ensure they meet these criteria.

Starting May 22nd, 2024, Windows devices running on the following operating systems will no longer be protected by Norton:

  • Windows XP

  • Windows Vista

  • Windows 7 (Service Pack 0)

This article provides more information on how this decision potentially impacts you.

For the best product and service experience, we recommend upgrading your computer to the latest Windows operating system.

You can continue using your Norton security product on your device running on the above operating systems. However, you will not be able to receive protection updates, definition updates, and other security fixes. Your device will eventually become vulnerable to newer security threats.

Important: You cannot install or activate Norton Protection on these operating systems. If you uninstall the Norton product, there is no way you can reinstall it.

Why is Norton stopping support for these operating systems?

Microsoft stopped supporting Windows XP in 2014, Windows Vista in April 2017, and Windows 7 SP0 in January 2020.

Unsupported versions of Windows no longer receive software updates from Microsoft. It becomes difficult for us to support devices running on unsupported operating systems.

What does this mean?

Norton security software installed on Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Windows 7 SP0 will no longer receive any definition or vulnerability updates previously available in Maintenance Mode.

LiveUpdate and all protection features will no longer work on these operating systems.

Virus Protection Promise* will no longer be provided for the devices running on these operating systems.

What services will stop or change in Maintenance Mode?

Your Norton security software will no longer receive any updates that the customers on supported versions of Windows (Windows 11, Windows 10, Windows 8, and Windows 7 SP1) will receive.

Due to Microsoft, Google, and Mozilla no longer providing browser support for Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Windows 7 SP0, we will not support the Norton Password Manager browser plug-in.

You will not be able to access your stored passwords through the main service interface or the Norton Password Manager website.

This announcement informs that Norton will no longer provide protection updates for Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Windows 7 (SP0) starting May 22nd, 2024. This is due to Microsoft's discontinuation of support for these operating systems. Users are advised to upgrade their systems for continued protection.
