how do one protect from the services installed by phone manufacturer? for an example, calling home.
For unrooted phone, does connected via vpn helps? Meaning data are encrypted, whatever the manufacturer has are rubbish.

i am thinking to switch away from rooted phone but wary of the manufacturers
