Would a VPN work?

Good philosophy(you have) If its not broke don't fix it
I broke it many times myself trying out new stuff.
Nowadays I am a bit more careful :D
If you really want it, you can get it from Major Geeks:

One of the reasons I love DNS services, they show all connections, not just the final one. The webpage will not open without connecting to China, images are hosted there. I smell Tencent. 🤫

Interesting. That is information I'm not getting by my not using a DNS service.
But as long as it's, the app is connecting to US servers, will that matter security wise i.e. China spying?

I tried it for some time, but with each update it removes the app's built-in features and replace it with a link to windows settings section to manage it from there instead, which will be in the end a central app to find settings easier, and it always runs in the background, if you know what are you looking for in windows settings you don't need it.

Chinese softwware probably owned by Tencent. Better to skip. There is no reason to contact Chinese domains

But from my installed app, it isn't connecting to China. Maybe the initial webpage @TairikuOkami pointed to there is, in which my lack of understanding is probably not getting the concern, unless the installed app was connecting to China? So again, apologies for my ignorance if, that I'm not getting it :)
From Brave Leo, FWIW:
Microsoft PC Manager is a free antivirus software developed by Microsoft, not Tencent. It is designed to provide real-time protection against viruses, spyware, and other malware on Windows devices.

Connection to Tencent: None

There is no direct connection or ownership between Microsoft PC Manager and Tencent. Microsoft PC Manager is a standalone product, and Tencent is a separate Chinese technology conglomerate with its own subsidiaries and interests.

Relevant Context: The search results highlight Tencent’s significant presence in the gaming industry, including its ownership of Riot Games and stakes in Epic Games (Fortnite). Additionally, there is a mention of Tencent’s “golden share” acquired by the Chinese government, which might impact its interactions with Western firms like Microsoft. However, this does not imply any direct connection or ownership between Microsoft PC Manager and Tencent.

In summary, Microsoft PC Manager is a Microsoft-owned product, and there is no connection or ownership between it and Tencent.

Microsoft initially only released a Chinese language version.
Code:
https://pcmanager.microsoft.com/en-us
US link still connecting to China. It looks like some geo check, not sure why. Still it will not connect unless I allow Chinese domain, which I will not.

It looks like "Microsoft PC Manager" will be installed by default from now on, or if you were installed once it will be added to your system "Provisioned apps" to be installed by default for every account created, how to check if you have installed it before? Just run the following command on Windows Terminal as Admin:
Code:
Get-AppxProvisionedPackage -Online | Select PackageName
If "Microsoft.MicrosoftPCManager_3.16.6.0_neutral_~_8wekyb3d8bbwe" in your list, then it will be installed automatically from now on.
