"OldNewExplorer" or O-N-E is a free portable software created by "Tihiy" @ MSFN forums which allows you to:

- Restore Windows 7 style devices and drives grouping in Windows 8.1 Explorer
- Restore default libraries and remove 6 folders from Windows 8.1 Explorer
- Restore Command bar and remove Ribbon from Windows 8/8.1 Explorer
- Move Details pane back to bottom in Windows 8/8.1 Explorer
- Enable/disable Status bar in Windows 8/8.1 Explorer
- Change appearance/color of Command bar and Status bar in Windows 8/8.1 Explorer
- Using this free tool is very easy. You just need to run its EXE file, check/uncheck desired options and click on "Install" button. That's it. It'll immediately apply the changes.

In future if you want to restore default functionality of Windows Explorer, run the tool again, check/uncheck desired options and click on "Uninstall" button.

Why doing this when you can use the Windows 7 again?

It makes the user interface in Windows 8 and 8.1 Explorer more user friendly and does away with all the nonsense added to Windows 8 and 8.1 Explorer.

It works very well, I've been using it for just over a week now.

I know a number of people who bought their computers around the time of Win 8 initial release, and couldn't find PCs with Win 7 although that's would've been their preference. This would be a cheap way of getting the look and feel of it.
