Just for laughs.
The first time I opened my PC to install a new hard dive I was really paranoid about static wrecking something. I had been told to just make sure I was always in contact / touching the tower or even the iron rad. I did not trust that or myself to follow through. SO: I made a grounding plug. I pulled the two connection prongs from a 3 prong plug, left enough cable to reach an outlet, put a wrist band on it and plugged myself in. My very techie son came in to see how I was getting on and nearly killed himself laughing. He assured me my computer was very safe with that get-up. He did think it a bit of an over kill.
(The install went very well)
