Ghacks said:Sandboxie is a security program for Windows that creates a virtual safe environment on your system in which you can run applications and processes that you select. It is a sandboxing software that uses isolation to protect and shield the system from programs that run inside the sandbox. While primarily designed to protect the system against malware and other unwanted software, it can also be used for other activities such as software testing.

Why use Sandboxie?
Why would you want to use a program like Sandboxie in first place? Here are a couple of use scenarios:
- For software testing. Instead of installing a program that you have just discovered on your system directly, with all the consequences that this operation has, you can run it in the sandbox instead where the system is protected from it. This not only prevents malware from infecting your system, but also blocks modifications to the system from being permanent in nature. You can test the program thoroughly first and if it passes all tests, install it as a permanent program outside of the sandbox.
- Security. Sandboxed programs can’t infect a system, change system files or wreak havoc on your system. Say goodbye to drive by downloads, trojans and most forms of malware.
- Privacy. Programs that you run in the sandbox do not make modifications to the underlying system. Combine that with secure deletion options of the sandbox to prevent the system from recording that a program or file was run on the system. Make sure you read the privacy concerns page to for issues regarding that topic.
