She really bugs you, doesn't she? It's difficult to understand sometimes, but forgetting about Comodo Firewall, some of us use other software that we know nothing about, that can also trash a system. We don't wait for an 'expert' to show us how it works, guiding us through it like a naive child. We download and begin playing with it - sometimes to our peril, but we manage. Just like so many of us have managed with Comodo, for years, without even knowing how to write a rule.
Agree, as for myself, I visit the vendors forums as well, and learn from what others are posting and the solutions provided. I also try not to use anything over my head (in my case) where I would get tick happy and end up neutering its security. Not a slam against anyone here, my friends, but 3 apps I will not use are VoodooShield (Cyberlock) where even danb mentioned it is geared more for the business user (IIRC), also COMODO and ESET with it's myriad settings options.

Using F-Secure (and GlassWire), Bitdefender and AVG free on my PC's, which I know and understand, helps lessen any oops, learning curves for me :)

Nothing its fine for the enthusiast they just need to quit telling novice to average users its easy just follow this guide. Misconfiguration of systems is one of the leading causes of vulnerability aside from lack of security patches and upgrades. What starts it is the little snide remarks that prompt this but it seems no one pays any mind to these. But then come 50 users to hammer one user for speaking up. Bunch of thugs I tell ya, couldn't stand on their own feet to save their souls.

Its not hard to understand that Cruelsis sparked this with a little snide remarks of cant speak on it, trying to cause issue, but make sure you all bow down to her. (these statements not directed at you @Digmor Crusher .)
Hi friend. I don't know you, you seem very knowledgable, so I appreciate your opinion. I want to ask a question, and it is really none of my business, just out of curiosity. Do you and CS have a past, I mean like, were you boyfriend and girlfriend, or maybe engaged, or even married? In a couple posts you seem aggravated at her, and I must apologize as I said it's none of my business, it's just new member curiosity.

so anyway, back to the topic at hand.....

Now can I re-iterate... If we consider the 3 consumer products that I am aware of (there may be lots more) that are default deny. Being Comodo FW/CS, Webroot with the setting mentioned in the 2nd post (thank you), and PC Matic. Would you consider them equal as far as protection with the settings we have been discussing, or would you rate them #1, #2, and #3

Lynx forgot about OP thread title, and got that Decope trollbot.exe all enrolled in it's military. If OP had a title about "I'm new don't know a single buck about software, looking for some simple AV that doesn't pop windows, etc" Then I myself would tell other options rather than just CIS. Thing is OP asked for a specific setting on CS, then don't expect people to not actually have a look at it lol.

All three will have some sort of effectiveness. It will depend on your needs as an user, your hardware and your system configuration and version, compatibility requirements and so on. What you want to accomplish by installing this software, etc. All that will move them in rank most likely.

Thats funny actually because I feel CS may not even be a female and is probably a male in a dress sitting in their parents basement. I have no past with CS other then that user likes to hide behind their following and make remarks that cause issues. All these guys flood in thinking CS is some hot babe that is going to take kindly to her/him being rescued. Typically I would state facts and just leave it be, but as you see her/him cult comes out of the woodwork and attacks users if they say anything about the product or the poster. As you noted in my early post I stated CIS is and can be powerful in the right hands, did I not? But I stated also that this type of security and method are not to be taken lightly because its a responsibility of a poster to clarify so as to not mislead users. That latter part of the last sentence before this one is why I have issue with the user CS and the followers.

I stated fact and all you trolls come out of the wood work. OP asked for an unbiased opinion on the software, maybe you need to check your translation.

You ain't unbiased. You just posted some good misleading information that's all I saw. But looks like you type but haven't even tested anything. Besides that, u good.

How is stating that default deny requires knowledge of the operating system, and of applications used on the system in order to be not only effective, but to keep from misconfigurations and even worse, crashes, misleading? How is stating that guides that show users how to flip a toggle are ok, but do not teach the user what they are doing and how it affects the OS and the software, misleading? Why are there tons of posts in these so called professionals threads with users needing help with their so easy to use configurations? Do I need to continue or is anyone getting the point yet. It was not unbiased, I asked the OP in my initial if they felt they knew the OS and their software well enough and if they thought they could handle that type of security after stating the downsides to it.

Look folks, I have just as much right as any of you to post here. If you do not like what you read, move on to something else or make a quick statement. Why it takes all of you to come at one user is beyond me but looks rather pathetic and much like cyber bullying by a bunch of fanbois. So there's that.

You seem to know a lot about it. I'm testing CIS on pretty much default settings, could you tell me what to set up in settings to trash the system please? so I can reproduce your uber fire crash.

Sure smart a s s just start locking down your system services, it wont take long since you are obviously one of the novice/average users my posts were directed at.

Is that your best answer? I'm giving you the chance to tell me how to reproduce the super issue you spam, can you elaborate or stuck in cold ice?

It is the correct answer, because any of those settings that you toggle and do not understand can cause misconfiguration. Start by interrupting your system services, push a update through windows with it misconfigured. Better yet explain to the folks how to configure and what each setting does, and how it interacts with their applications, because a simple scenario would not be enough to fit all the variables of different configurations and levels of knowledge now would it? So your the expert here as you are trying to one up me, so demonstrate, show these users how to use the product safely and with no issue. Make sure you cover all aspects and scenarios.

What settings? I set up restricted for APPS that run virtually, what else have to be done? Just restarted the machiine with the new settings and nothing happens, just installed steam and couple extra apps.

I will treat you like you are 5.

Default Deny will place restrictions on actions in between applications and the Operating system. If you do not know what to toggle or set as you have stated above, or how those settings affect the applications or settings, how would you know what to do with an issue from the application unable to work as intended to windows updates and services effected.

I can throw suricata in a Linux machine, add custom rules to block attacks via the IPS mode, and if misconfigured, guess what?
Can you handle that software, you should be able to because I can. See the logic you are presenting me? Now go play with someone else or contribute to this thread without directly coming at me like the other 10 users felt they needed to do.

Comodo has built-in whitelists and rulesets for OS files and services. Comodo defaults, or CruelConfig, are as safe for the system as any typical security software.
Yes i have seen how effective these are before. CIS is not as safe as any typical software nor is it used world wide even being free. Its this type of misinformation that literally is the reason I respond. If you want to play enthusiast/Professionals go ahead but quit misleading average users with this nonsense.

Thanks man still can't provide data to reproduce a system trash, yet you post like you'll install it and your system will crash. That's how you put it literally, so you repeat that so much that makes me dea with youl like you are 5. You spam I spam wgaf can't care less if you keep doing it.
