Google Inc. has accused Microsoft Corp.'s Bing search engine of copying Google's results to improve its own.

Mountain View-based Google (NASDAQ:GOOG) made the claim Tuesday in a tech blog called Search Engine Land, following a test to prove that Bing has been watching what people search for on Google.

Google said it ran a "sting" with an altered algorithm and misspellings to see if the changes would show up in Bing's results, and found that the changes did appear on the rival search engine.

Microsoft respons :

“To be clear, we learn from all of our customers. What we saw in today’s story was a spy-novelesque stunt to generate extreme outliers in tail query ranking. It was a creative tactic by a competitor, and we’ll take it as a back-handed compliment. But it doesn’t accurately portray how we use opt-in customer data as one of many inputs to help improve our user experience.”

Google’s search engine looked for the word ‘tarsorrhaphy’ after ‘tarsoraphy’ was typed into the search box.

A search on Bing for the misspelled word came up with the exact same results. Here is Google’s comment.

So if Bing steals google search results they should settle it in a court of low.

I find this fact to be interesting:
Internet Explorer makes clear (to those who bother to read its privacy policy) that by default, it’s going to capture some of your browsing data, unless you switch certain features off. It may also gather more data if you enable some features.

When Suggested Sites is turned on, the addresses of websites you visit are sent to Microsoft, together with standard computer information.
