"Google this week admitted that its staff will pick and choose what appears in its search results. It's a historic statement - and nobody has yet grasped its significance..."

maybe they can do something about this : http://lmgtfy.com/?q=antivirus+reviews [ethical issue]
It's not a bad thing that Google is picking what appears in its search result because so many sites use SEO techniques just to rank higher, and the content of those site is let's say... no that good.
As long as Google is behaving responsibly..putting users in front of profits...... their is no major problem...after all , a simple computer algorithm can be tricked.

I'm just sick of Google's shifty practices. This is a prime example of why I use DuckDuckGo, I don't trust Google. They've gotten too big & they've lost touch with reality in my opinion.

Yes they've got too big and they are getting a power complex... just as bad as M$. I remember the days when Google was up and coming and used to rally behind them, still use their services but for how long I do not know.

How well does that work?

The only reason I still use Google is because it's always been much more effective than any other search engine.

It's not Google but I like it, it also doesn't track your IP address. You can actually interact with the founder on the DDG forum (much like Melih) & I'm actually trying to get DDG on the default search engine list on Dragon. The one thing I'm trying to get him to change is the sub links that you have on Google where you can go to links inside the site you're looking up from the search results. Google has them DDG doesn't yet. It's worth a try.
