I get this everytime I use Google search for the first time after launching Edge.
Then, Google search does not ask again, until I close and relaunch Edge.

This might be due to your browser's privacy settings or extensions. Try disabling any ad blockers or privacy extensions temporarily. If the issue persists, try resetting your browser settings or use another browser to see if the problem continues.

It was uBOl; changing from optimal to basic solved the problem.

I know for me it usually does this when I am connected to a VPN. I guess it usually means there is multiple people using google at the same time or there is a lot of traffic on google search from 1 IP address.
I am not using any sort of VPN or proxy.

Yes, I understand that now. There can be many things that can cause this message. For me, it is what causes it but some people it is extensions.
Still cannot understand how extension can lead to unusual traffic!
I can see why using VPN with IP from another country elicit such a security warning.

If reducing ad blocking level on uBO Lite solved the problem, then it's probably the extension triggering captcha because it blocked something and made Google suspicious. Enabling stronger fingerprinting protection will also get you way more captchas because then website can't really prove it's you.
It's so frustrating that I posted this comment on Google recaptcha's GitHub a few days ago

They do have reCAPTCHA V3 which works in background and analyzes your behavior. However, not a lot of websites use it and instead still rely on reCAPTCHA V2. Also... these traffic lights, cars, motorcycles, fire hydrants and crosswalks aren't here just to prove you're human. When you solve the captcha by selecting correct images, you're helping Google train their AI and autonomous driving system. Hence why you aren't asked to select pictures with cookies, milk or flower, rather than stuff related to driving and roads.

Brave users must be suffering.
Well, depends because there are multiple mechanisms that check the user, not just behavior. When I used Brave, I didn't get them much, though I could see people complaining to Brave team about getting more captchas than in other browsers.

It's unknown which conditions have to be met to get the check and how reCAPTCHA itself works, because then bots would be able to bypass it very easily.

Did not use Brave for a while, but I think it is related to enabling anti-fingerprinting option in the shield.

Yeah, I'm aware of them using those images to train AI. But I would expect after all these years for them have enough data already but doesn't look like it
I think I saw the news of reCAPTCHA V3 when it came out. How come google themselves don't use reCAPTCHA V3 on google(.)com? My main issue is that I have to click those trafficlights when I search on Google in browser's private/incognito mode.

This is likely caused by the extension preventing G from gathering all of the usual browser info, i.e., for fingerprinting, tracking, etc.

I get a similar alert when using search.brave.com for multiple searches in a row, e.g. when asking its AI follow-up questions.

Edit: Brave search uses its own internal mechanism (maybe Cloudfare?) to conduct the check, so no user interaction is required, other than waiting a couple of seconds.

AI is constantly learning and evolving; you can never have enough data. reCAPTCHA V3 doesn't train the AI, but V2 does. It's in Google's best interest for you to keep clicking on those little pictures with quality like they were taken with Nokia 3310.

If G used any other expression than "unusual traffic" I would suspect the extension is the cause; using such expression made me think I may have some security breach.

Every time I launch Microsoft Edge and use Google Search for the first time, I get a pop-up or prompt. After that, it doesn’t appear again until I close and relaunch Edge. It’s repetitive and annoying.
