Google serves ad for Adware/Spyware! Nothing new i think ..

But this read is short and says anything about today's situation at web by Google: by Zscaler Research:
http://research.zscaler.com/2012/01/google-serves-ad-for-adwarespyware.html

'.. Google are apparently not succeeding in delivering 100% adware/spyware free content to users.'

So Google serves ads with Adware and Spyware for you and me.

Fortunately we've choice in search engines. Look on Privatelee, or DuckDuckGo ..;)

Many webhotels give away free Google ad coupons with every purchase. i Can imagine a lot of evil doers exploit that. They can't check them all.

Or... we can grab AdBlock PLUS, NoScript (or RequestPolicy) for the Java/IFrame exploits the article mentions.

I use Google SSL and see no ads what so ever. Tho I speak for the techy users, For those who wouldn't have a clue how to install an add-on, We got a problem indeed.

The adware/spyware is flagged by only 4 antivirus vendors out of 43. A behavioral analysis of the executable provided much more information about packages that were downloaded and ports open on the machine, etc.

I find it kind of strange that only 4 Antivirus engines (Avast, DrWeb, Fortinet and Eset NOD32) detected the adware in the FLVPlayerSetup.exe.

http://www.virustotal.com/file-scan/report.html?id=33f4bb3d0e2d026816c53cab4fafb16cc585df2e8a7f75bb3d6dc0cb2623d02f-1325615765

I wonder if InstallCore Adware in the whitelists of the other AV engines?

Thanks.:D

'I find it kind of strange ..'

To me - antiviruses are not enough good, nothing new. They are better which nothing, but we cannot it call effective nor efficient with the recent malware!

So VirusTotal results are not interesting to me.

PS. MrXidius, with Google SSL you have no ads? Never heard about this. Which ads? Hmm... After click on link, you do NOT have SSL, right?;)

Google Sponsored ads / Related Searches. Ad-Block PLUS blocks all this useless junk.

Only encrypted while on Google, If the site I am visiting has SSL then I get switched to it. I use HTTPS Everywhere by the way.

One thing I like about Google SSL is it hides search referral data and other positive things I find helpful.

See related links.

Much better is a web proxy solution. Then get good and safe Proxify and forget this Google SSL which is not secure (because you get the JavaScript malwares) toward safe proxy solution.

It's easy enough to block the Javascript issues with either a simple filter in AdBlock Plus:
Code:
*$script,third-party

Or by using NoScript or RequestPolicy.

Third party Javascript concerns are no reason to go flocking to a proxy.

Seems like you've forgotten my previous post mentioning NoScript / RequestPolicy.

I'd rather not use some proxy service I've never heard about nor trust.

Google SSL is the way to go for me. Thanks.

Over the years I have seen a lot of shady ads from Google and from the consumers point of view I highly dislike them but the fact of the matter is that Google is a private company which offers a paid service to any customer who want to advertise so when clicking on an ad we have our share of responsibility.
In a perfect world we wouldn't see this type of ads , however in the real world user can and will stumble upon this type of ads ...... Google allows them because it gets paid however we as final user should think twice before randomly clicking on any banner that a site might display.
There are a lot of ways for a regular user to avoid this shady ads but the main solution is and always will be COMMON SENSE. In this case the download page clearly stated that "This product is totally free and offers the user additional bundle products that may include advertisement." so why would you install this product?
