You are misunderstanding the purpose of Firemin The comments on that page are misleading actually. I recommend Firemin, less because of the reduction in RAM but because of the stability increase. In reality, Firefox is still trying to reserve huge amounts of memory, but shifting this to the page file greatly increases the stability of Firefox and you no longer experience crashing due to the memory ceiling.
In a way it is a trick, but the practical benefits of faster performance with many open tabs and less crashing are practical benefits.
