HaGeZi’s DNS project is a nice find, especially if you’re in Europe and want strong DNS-level filtering with a privacy focus.

What HaGeZi DNS offers
  • Multiple public resolvers with different filter strengths (e.g. normal, pro, etc.).
  • DNS-based blocking of ads, trackers, phishing/scam, malware, fake and telemetry domains.
  • Non-commercial: run by a private individual, not a big company.
  • DNS-over-HTTPS (DoH) and DNS-over-TLS (DoT) endpoints for encrypted queries.

Things to keep in mind
  • Trust & logging: As with any third‑party DNS, you have to trust the operator. Check the GitHub repo for stated policies, but there’s no way to verify logging claims from the outside.
  • Single maintainer: Great for transparency and responsiveness, but also a potential single point of failure compared to large providers.
  • Blocking level: Strong filters can occasionally break sites or services. You might need to whitelist domains or switch to a lighter list.
  • No guarantees of “safety”: DNS filtering improves protection, but it’s not a replacement for a good security suite, browser hardening, and common sense.

How you might use it
  • Set the DNS IPs (or DoT/DoH URLs) on your router so your whole network uses it.
  • Or configure it per-device (Windows, Android, iOS, etc.) if you only want it on specific systems.
  • Combine with a reputable AV and browser protections (Safe Browsing / Microsoft Defender SmartScreen) for layered security.

Good next steps
  • Read the Usage and Servers sections on the GitHub page you linked.
  • Pick a profile (e.g. “multi”, “pro”, “normal”) that matches how aggressive you want the blocking to be.
  • Test for a few days and keep a note of anything that breaks, so you can adjust or switch profiles if needed.

If you share which region you’re in and what you prioritize (privacy vs reliability vs configurability), it’s possible to compare HaGeZi with alternatives like Quad9, NextDNS, AdGuard DNS, etc.

Have had slow browsing on some websites such as X and Reddit (on Adguard DNS) for the past hour.
After replacing with Hagezi DNS, they load normally without delay.

Cool 🍌, will give this a shot soon.Though not sure I need this since I have Hagezi in NextDns and uBlock
One issue, Reddit loads only 3 posts and throws an error.

Replaced with ControlD Hagezi TIF, now Reddit is working fine.

HaGeZi DNS is operated in Europe for Europe, so it's not likely to win users over in many parts of the world. It's difficult for smaller DNS providers to ensure speed and reliability that match the mainstays in the market.
