I consider Shadow Defender my top security layer even though I use it on demand, and I know that SD is not a real anti-malware application.

Just add a on demand scanner like Zemana anti-Malware.
Yes SD is not a antimalware, it doesn't analyzes processes or malware code, but it puts the OS session in a virtual area, which then is reset on system reboot.

Only thing I would suggest is one or two on demand scanners.

I have used Malwarebytes Antimalware and HitmanPro on demand scanners for many years, HerdProtect as well, they have never ever found anything except for tracking cookies. Last year I've decided no more on demand scanners and no more system scans with Avira. If something is fishy with my systems restoring an image takes roughly 10-15 minutes with Macrium Reflect, life is good...
