For some reason, the update check within Hasleo is not working for me despite the fact that I am using version 4.5. My question is can I install 4.9.3 over top of my existing installation or should I uninstall version 4.5 first? (Or, will installing 4.9.3 automatically uninstall version 4.5 during its installation?)

Download the latest installer. It will tell you that a version is already installed, and do you like to uninstall it? Say yes to everything and after uninstalling, the installation window for the new version will automatically appear. This happens for every new update of this program.

So Hasleo failed on me somedays ago. My whole SSD was wiped as it got stuck at 0% for more than 20 minutes while restoring. I had to force restart my PC and after that I saw that everything was gone.
I have restored using Hasleo many times before and never had any issue whatsoever, so this was very surprising.
But with that said, there were some things about my SSD partitions that were not typical.
For example, my boot/EFI partition was 512 MB instead of the default 100 MB that windows created. I did that to make space for Linux bootloaders. Windows don't let you extend EFI partitions, so I did it using EaseUS Partition Master Free. Another thing was, I shrank one of my existing partitions to make room for Linux. That drive had more than 100 GB of free space. I wanted to allocate 32 GB from that but Windows's own disk management tool didn't let me shrink the partition. It was only allowing merely 16MB. That was an odd behavior. If I had more than 100 GB free space, why wouldn't it let me shrink 32 GB from it?
Anyway, once again I used EaseUS Partition Master Free to shrink the volume.
I don't know if using EaseUS Partition Master Free somehow messed up the partition table or not. It's a possibility since Windows wasn't letting me do that.
But I had no trouble using the modified bootloader and new empty partition for installing and using Linux. Later even installed more games in the partition that was shrunk and everything ran as perfectly as expected. So, I'm not sure if EaseUS Partition Master Free did something that resulted in Hasleo failing to restore. Hasleo of course didn't complain while taking system backup but this was the first time I performed a restoration operation after these modifications and it failed.
So, I'm not sure who to blame. In one way, what happened was better because since the whole SSD was wiped, this time I pre-allocated empty space for Linux while installing windows and also using a separate partition for linux bootloader so there is no overlap between the two and I will not have to use a third-party partition manager tool.
But just because it failed, at the moment I have went back to Aomei Backupper Free and may come back to Hasleo again sometimes letter. Maybe I will get some explanation if I share this on the Hasleo forum. They may know better why Windows Disk management didn't let me, but EaseUS did and why Hasleo failed.

"Windows Disk Management" can only shrink a partition if there is unused space at the end. (It truncates the unused blocks from the end.) It seems that you only have 16 MB of unused space at the end. The rest of the 100 GB is probably spread over the rest of the partition.

Try to run "Defragment and Optimize Drives" first. This will hopefully move files from the end of the partition forward, allowing for more space. If that doesn't give satisfactory results, you need a 3rd party partitioning utility that can re-organize the partition contents and do the re-size for you.

I used MiniTool Partition Wizard Free in the past, but after using Linux I start using GParted and really no need for anything else, you can use it on any Linux distribution, it is easy and efficient.

Oh, okay that makes sense now. So, I don't think EaseUS Partition Master did anything to mess the partition table. It's also one of the only ones that I tried that can detect linux's ext4 partition. So Hasleo failed for who knows what reason!

I did that but it didn't make a difference.

Yeah, I have use GParted and it's KDE equivalent Partition Manager. They are better than Windows's Disk Management tool.
