Hello,

A long tine ago, I did a boot-time defrag with Puran Defrag. Then poof! My fast startup (hybrid shutdown/hibernate) won't work anymore, but I can still do manual hibernate.

This time I did the boot-time defrag again with PerfectDisk. Even though my system's fast startup was broken, still the full shutdown and boot were a lot faster than the full shutdown/boot before I installed PerfectDisk.

Please help. Last time I reinstalled Windows 8.1 Update 1 just to cure the problem, hate to do that again.

Thanks

Did you try System Restore?
Also I hope you did not use PerfectDisk Pro crack or keygen because most of them are infected with a rootkit.

Windows 8 Secure Boot feature should not work correctly with boot-time defrag, you probably need to go into the system BIOS and disable secure boot before running boot time defrag. Another thing to consider, some security software will interfere with boot time defrag, for example, the boot drivers are not compatible. You may need to visit your security software help site to see if there is any known problems.

By the way, boot time defrag is not required on Vista, Windows 7 or 8. I seriously doubt it would make the system run any better.

On Windows XP, it could make quite a difference, but the NTFL was changed on Windows after XP.

Enjoy!! :D

Thanks much for your concern!

Just a few minutes ago, I found a solution, it says:

During the Windows 8 fast startup process, PerfectDisk's PDBoot.exe is running and checking to see if a boot time defrag has been requested. PDBoot.exe is working as expected but it may slow down the Windows 8 boot process. This goes for any software that is configured to run in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager BootExecute.

We have a tool that can remove PDBoot.exe from the BootExecute key which will allow the machine to boot fast but this removes the ability to run a boot time defrag. If you need to run a boot time defrag then you will need to go to the help tab, click product resources, under the diagnostics area, click start to find problems and then fix. This will re-insert PDBoot.exe back into the BootExecute key and allow the boot time defrag to work again.

======================
The tool really fixed things up!

I would never do a boot-time defrag again!

I just hope PerfectDisk's feature, the OptiWrite, really prevents fragments even before they occur!

Thanks!

I just installed PerfectDisk 13 Pro. Thanks for opening this issue. I was going to boot-time defrag. Now, I know that I should not. Thanks!

This is insanely useful, I've been troubled for over 2 years, I recently upgraded to 14 and the problem still exists. Then I see your post. You're very helpful. Thank you very much.

THANK YOU! This explains a lot to me. I purchased perfect disk 14 a few days ago and had an issue trying the software's boot defrag. Until you mentioned this I hadn't thought of Secure Boot being an issue. Thanks again.
