Whether or not you think Twitter's decision to expand tweets to 280 characters is "wow, great evolution of a useful tool!" or "actually, this is bad because Twitter is bad," one thing is certain: not everyone has it yet.

But thanks to some eagle-eyed users, if you're still one of the (un)lucky Tweeters with a measly 140 characters with which to scream into the echo chamber, there are a couple of hacks to get you the full deal.

For one approach, according to The Next Web's work-around, you'll need to use Tweetdeck in Chrome. Once there, you can go to the "Developer Tools" option by selecting "Developer" under Chrome's "View" menu option.

If you want to avoid Tweetdeck and don't mind a bit of playing about with code directly in Chrome, Engadget points out a TamperMonkey script that forces your Twitter web client tweets to expand to the 280-character limit as well.

Here's a quick TamperMonkey script that force enables 280 character tweets in the Twitter web client.Force enable cramming (280 character tweets) on Twitter. Use TamperMonkey. NOTE: Stops working when you switch pages, refresh to fix. https://twitter.com/Prof9/status/912859110776950784 · GitHub

Now, none of this solves whether or not having 280 characters is a good thing.

But it is a thing and if you don't want Twitter FOMO then have at it. At least until Twitter pushes out its own patches and blocks us — ever-so-temporarily — from living the TWO-EIGHT-ZERO life.
