Just signed up and thanks in anticipation for any help you can offer. Having trouble uninstalling DriverAssist. "Computer says NO", apparently. Downloaded Revouninstaller but it doesn't find and list DriverAssist so can't uninstall it using that. Any ideas?

Thanks again. Downloaded IObit and could uninstall DriverAssist. However problems with Chrome persist - it takes ages to open and maybe sometimes it doesn't. That should be the default browser. Explorer opens quickly. Perhaps I should uninstall Chrome and reinstall it?

You should scan your PC as pointed out in the uninstall link I provided to make sure all remnants of Driver Assist are removed from your browsers also

Appreciate your help. Did the powerful scan with I0bit and removed the remnants but as stated, chrome seemed to have been usurped so I uninstalled it and tried to reinstall it from the google website. Unwanted products were installed and chrome wouldn't download - couldn't believe it. Now istartsurf has taken over! Managed to uninstall the other junk that came with it but neither Revo or I0bit list istartsurf as a program. Found the article on MalwareTips on "How to remove istartsurf" and gave it a go - no luck. I get deeper and deeper - maybe a dinosaur doomed to message sticks, snail mail and if I'm lucky the old copper wire phone. (Oops! Perhaps not! Even the phone is now through our NBN Co fixed wireless service.)

Take heart in the fact every member of our experienced staff & (we) your fellow members have walked upon your present path, & can empathize with feeling ones system may be on the verge of :eek:extinction! This does not have to come to pass!;)

Here I shall re-post exterminator20's recommendation "If you are having trouble, post here":

You'll be in good hands too.:D

Edit: @DocW, WinXPert's suggestion of Blitzblank looks impressive, and I'm in agreement over using the extremely useful CCleaner which you can download safely & directly from the developers here:

Thanks to you all for the advice and the welcomes extended to me. I gather that this is not the way to post a problem but I appreciate your comments and patience. Being a techno-laggard and 67 years old does present problems when blogging (is that what I'm doing?) and trying to use forums. Could I rightfully assume that all you helpful folk are probably much younger than my children? He he. When I have the courage I will look at attempting to do something on "malware-removal-assistance" as a formal post. Scary!
