Last week, TechRepublic published a great editorial making the case that Android tablets are a failure.

I don't entirely agree, but as we head into CES 2012, one thing is certain: there will be no more talk of Android 3.0 (aka Honeycomb) as anything other than a disappointment. The future of Android, for tablet and smartphone alike, is Android 4.0, aka Ice Cream Sandwich.

That said, I do worry that the Android 4.0 experience on a tablet is destined to repeat the same mistakes as Honeycomb.

What went wrong:
Honeycomb was not distributed fast enough. It was created far too late, and by that time the normal Android was already on tablets.
The Operating System was not updated fast enough. It took a while to even be updated once.
The App Store wasn't good enough. It has far too little applications in the app store and I still believe too little.

I believe Google has failed and can't fix it. If you start something broken, it stays broken. Sorry Google.
