@Mr.Pr - Linux mint is one of several linux flavours out there. There are different versions to suit your needs and the teams maintaining these distros vary in size and funding. I would suggest you read these pages for a bit of insight into both Linux and the distro you looked up.

History of Linux

Linux Mint

I have used Linux mint for a few years and it's quite good. The community is always very helpful and as with all the distros I know of, you can create a bootable usb and check out which you prefer.

I don't know the specifics about the Linux Kernel, but Linux/UNIX is widely used around the world. Not everyone uses Windows on their server.

You have heard of Mint?
Linux Mint is popular, community-driven and based on Ubuntu and Debian.

Canonical is the company behind Ubuntu.
Canonical | The company behind Ubuntu

Etc.

Android uses a Linux kernel, but because it's developed by Google, you probably won't trust it - if you believe the Windows 10 spying claims.

It's all subjective.
