If you need a way to save some hard drive space one trick is to decrease the size or completely disable the System Restore feature. Disabling "System Restore" can also be required when you have trouble removing a malware because system restore has saved it as a check point and it can not be accessed. To solve this, you will need to disable system restore, reboot, scan for the problem and finally re-enable system restore.
So how can you decrease the size or completely disable the System Restore feature?

Disable System Restore
  • Click Start Orb
  • Right click Computer and the Properties
  • Choose Advanced System Settings option in left menu listing
  • Click the System Protection tab
  • Then highlight the drive you wish to turn off System Restore and click Configure
  • Then choose Turn off system protection
  • Click Yes and then Apply

Adjust System Restore Space
With the large capacity hard drives in today’s world there is really no reason to completely disable System Restore, however you might consider limiting the amount of space it takes on the disk if you need it.
Please note that when you limit the amount of space it uses then older Restore Points will be deleted and there will be less points to restore from as well.

After you adjust System Restore space in Windows 7 , you should create a Restore Point without delay.
