Tweaking Bitdefender to maximum settings will not enable it to pass the tests used by Redditor.
what about supplementing it with spyshelter free?

SpyShelter HIPS is what passed Redditor test.

SpyShelter free does not have HIPS enabled; only premium versions have HIPS enabled.
I think it has certain selected elements of HIPS. The latest version of spyshelter free does a lot of things, but not all the way.

from their website, about the free version:
System Protection (HIPS) Limited*
System Protection module is monitoring less actions than in SpyShelter Premium and SpyShelter Firewall.

The free version has the HIPS module.

But compared with the HIPS module in the premium version and the firewall version, the HIPS module in the free version could not monitor some activities, such as the activities related to Application Control, Protected Files, Firewall, Loading Drivers (why?), etc. But, the other parts of the HIPS module still exist in the free version.

For example, in a 32-bit system, the free version can properly prevent Action 29 targeting to the children processes. :)

spyshelter free version is definitely patrolling the executables. you get plenty of notifications about that.
bitdefender intrusion detection, at medium level, says it stops dll injections and malware drivers (I hope this is working on x64)
So it sounds to me like BD and SS free are a good combo
