India-Developing-Its-Own-Secure-Operating-System-2.png

Representatives of India’s Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) have revealed that the organization is working in collaboration with other institutions on developing a secure operating system.

According to The Times of India, 150 engineers from all across the country have already been working on the project for over one year and a half, but it will take another three before the operating systems can be rolled out.

The director general of the DRDO has explained that India needs its own operating system to strengthen cyber security.

He has emphasized that the current operating systems used in India, regardless whether they’re Windows or Linux-based, contain numerous security holes. That’s why it’s “essential” that the country develops its own.

The official has also noted the fact that this is solely India’s project, no foreign entities being involved.

They're not the only ones. Kaspersky is creating a secure tailored-made OS as well (obviously for closed systems, I assume).

"Own Secure Operating System" ..... In a perfect world this might be possible , however in our world it's impossible to build a 100% secure operating system that everyone can use.
A perfect example? Look at Apple operating system, they thought it was ultra secure , and it was for awhile however once its market share grew, cyber criminals have started analyzing its vulnerabilities and created malware for it.

Surely it will be a military/administrative-oriented OS. i don't really think that the citizens will have access to it :

someone : "what are you doing since 10 hours? "
Indian' s OS user: "looking for a compatible video software"
someone: "keep dreaming ! "

Thanks :D

Obviously it will be for secure use. Actually there is a linux OS called BOSS which is developed by CDAC.
CDAC stands for Centre for Advanced Development of Computers.
I am happy that our country is going towards self sufficiency. In the IT field i can vouch that the quality of engineers are second to none.
And yes citizen will not have access to this OS.
