If you live in India and visit file sharing websites, you may be out of luck: It is being reported that India is now blocking sites such as Megaupload, Putlocker, and Rapidshare. When a user attempts to visit any of these websites, they are met with a message by the Department of Telecom (DOT) stating that the site is now blocked.

If they wanted to stop the distribution of copyrighted content, then they should do it in a way that does not affect the regular user as people who wanted to download copyrighted content would just use a proxy or something alike whereas the regular user would have just lost the ability to download many programs.
Also, is Sourceforge affected?

I think this is kind of an overreaction, yes, most file sharing sites are used for warez, but there are legitimate uses. I'm pretty sure however, that people could get on to a site by using a proxy.

Pushing people and taking away there freedom will only be a minor road block, The smart ones will be on a proxy/VPN in no time.

How long it will pass until India will decide that some other sites have 'inappropriate content' and block them accordingly?

I totally agree, it is what happened in Vietnam about Facebook.

If they blocked file sharing sites, they also suppose to block the proxy server to surf anonymously.

If fact not necessarily, the controversial apps called Ultrasurf bypass all blocking, but it is Ultrasurf...
