My view in this regard is different than yours and that may make you think I am naive but nevertheless, trying to equate no/weak encryption with the request to save user details is unreasonable.I can't tell if you are actually this naive or joking. You sound like EU politicians who want no/weak encryption to fight terrorism/crime. If you don't understand why VPN storing logs (and other very private details) for 5 years by law is an issue then this discussion is pointless, I won't reply anymore to this thread.
Have a good day.
Storing user details can significantly aid in the identification and apprehension of cyber criminals. It's important to recognize that these measures are implemented with national security in mind.
Regarding user privacy, the government already possesses extensive knowledge about its citizens; it's not like they will gain access to brand new details with this new law
Like I said, the purpose is to track down cyber criminals.
