In brief: CRN's recent interview with the CEO of Intel covers multiple subjects, from the importance of the company's partners to Arm to the effects of the ongoing supply constraints. But Pat Gelsinger seems especially bullish on Intel's competition with AMD in the CPU market, particularly in light of AMD's recent gains there.

Recent AMD processors have compared favorably to Intel's in reviews and benchmarks, which is usually not the case when looking back on the history of competition between the two companies. Gelsinger wants people to know that Intel plans to end any perceived notions that AMD is ahead or dominant.

"So this period of time when people could say, 'Hey, [AMD] is leading,' that's over," he said to CRN. "We are back with a very defined view of what it requires to be leadership in every dimension."
Gelsinger went on to say Intel is leading in chip packaging, software, AI, graphics, and more while mentioning the company's 80 percent market share. "Intel is back," he said.

I wouldn't be surprised if Intel used their influence at MS to push W11 out so that Alder Lake CPUs will perform better when it coincidentally launches next month.
Considering the smack-down they already received in Windows 10 from AMD.

The new Intel CPU features hybrid architecture basically big cores and smaller cores something that windows 10 was never optimized for.

Something about this whole W11 launch stinks. Time will reveal all,

Tinfoil hat off.

I'll just leave this here.

Early benchmarks have shown Windows 11 would be up to 15% faster on Alder Lake than Windows 10

Those same 15%, Windows 11 bug could reduce Ryzen CPU performance by up to 15%, AMD says

Intel being the usual anti-competitive with shady deals.

So quick to declare that they’re back, but maybe let’s see something that ships that proves it? Do we have anything from Intel yet that can rival Apple’s 5 watt M1? Last I checked even the tablet class Intel chips can’t run at the lowest 200MHz clock speed at 5 watts. Not to mention AMD as a competitor.

I’d love to see more competition but Intel has always had a sexy roadmap and knows how to talk the talk. The problem is half of their plans get delayed/canceled and the other half ends up not living up to their promises.

Pat Gelsinger may be a lot of things, but shy isn't one of them. In an interview with CRN, the blue-team leader pulled no punches, proclaiming Intel's dominance and asserting that Alder Lake & future technologies will mark the end of AMD's current desktop and mobile market dominance. Earlier this week, he doubled down on his stance by predicting Intel will keep pace with, and even overtake, the rate of advancement described by Moore's Law.

The Intel CEO's claim is no small feat to accomplish. Gordon Moore, co-founder of Intel, is credited with creating the Moore's Law observation, which refers to the doubling of components on an integrated circuit. Moore initially predicted a doubling year over year but later revised his prediction to a doubling every two years. Based on the law and Gelsinger's statements, Intel will be setting nothing short of a breakneck pace for innovation in the coming years.
