iOS 10 Warns Users About Unsecured Networks When Using Public WiFi

iOS 10 offers a number of security improvements that will make using iPhones more secure for the users. A new feature that we have discovered is found in WiFi Settings page. The new operating system warns iOS device users when they connect to a public WiFi. When you join a public internet connection that is potentially unsecured, iOS will display a warning on top of the WiFi’s detail page. The warning reads “Open networks provide no security and expose all network traffic”.


iOS goes further recommending users configure their routers to use WPA2 Personal (AES) security type for that particular network in case its your private WiFi. While it is not a news for anyone that public WiFi are highly unsecured and when you use them your data is vulnerable to being intercepted. It is nice to see Apple is raising awareness about it by adding a warning on the WiFi settings page. The warning only appears when the network is not secured.


For public WiFi networks (such as the ones found at airports, malls or coffee shops) that require you to go through a confirmation page every time you connect to them, iOS 10 also offers Auto-Join and Auto-Login toggles.
