Is it 4-5 years from the product launch or 4-5 years from when Apple stop selling it ? For instance, the iPhone SE and iPhone 6 were discontinued a few days ago. If you had bought one of these from Apple last month, would you still get 4-5 years of security updates ? Past history suggests that you might not.

They really need to just create a thin shell with a keyboard and display and have phones beam the OS to them. Their phones should be fast enough for daily tasks. Just not video and music production yet. Maybe 2 more years and they will be at Intel's level.

Dexpad works really nice to be honest.

Sentio's are pretty nice. Basically an empty shell screen, the power for the laptop comes from your smart phone. Apple is WAY behind on all of this.

5 years from launch date. Thats the longest updates you get in a mobile platform right now.

The infos I have is that they're taking a hard look at phasing out MacBook. All anecdotal and circumstantial evidence suggests it's all perfectly true.
Misunderstood your previous post, it's possible, but I think they will keep the MacBook Pro.
No I meant the actual laptops. Not seeing it happening but would be cool if it were too.
Why? Apple won't release a laptop running iOS, because they have the iPad Pro that can be both. No one is going to pay $1000 for an Non-Touch Laptop running iOS. You can count on Microsoft though.
You mean the one with a 7th Gen Intel processors ?
Any that doesn't break your budget.

You mean my two-year-old iPad can't take this year's software? | Kate Bevan

Apple have a track record for this sort of thing.
In contrast, didn't Microsoft support Windows XP for 14 years or something ?
Look at the date of the article, written in 2012. Like I wrote in my previous post, iPads released from 2013 still get updates. I am guessing it was hardware limitation or business decision.

Microsoft supported Windows XP for so long, because their release cycles were different back then. Now they'll continue to have problems with users on Windows 7 and previous Windows 10 builds, as Windows users are reluctant to update.

Currently I have a Acer Laptop with 8th gen Intel i5 Processor, 8 GB Ram and a 240 GB SSD in it. Since I have started my career as a web developer I intend to use Mac over PC and many developers suggest to opt a Mac over a PC for web development. How feasible is that? What would your wise decision be?

It really depends on your job requirements and travel arrangements with your employer. If you buying a Mac, get what you can afford and make the best of it. It's your device for as long as you look after it.
